Hataraku Maou-sama!

If you enjoy a former overlord serving burgers at a nock off version of McDonalds then this is the anime for you. Hataraku Maou-sama! starts off as a world called Ente Isla is under the influence of Sadao Maou, this malevolent overlord is on the verge of being overthrown when he runs away. He runs through a portal to our world, only to lose all his power and in effect become an unemployed human. The funniest aspect of this anime is that the overlord has to work, and his serious attitude only makes you laugh harder as he offers a burger to his customers.

Sadao Maou is serious and cruel who works at Mc Ronalds, it is here that he learns the value of compassion. Maou is a hilarious character who brings his overlord personality into his work, he sees his coworkers in a similar light to his demon followers.  By having a former overlord become the manager to McRonalds, it makes the entire anime comedic and his serious disposition only make you laugh harder.

Shirō Ashiya, a mother hen and second in command to Maou is very dedicated to his overlord. Like a puppy wagging his tail, Ashiya follows his master around and essentially becomes a housewife for Maou.

Chiho Sasaki, innocent and in love with Maou works at McRonalds and becomes a valuable coworker to Maou. The funniest gag revolving around her is her infatuation with the overlord, despite her being way younger than him, she in her oblivious nature has fallen for a demon.

Emi Yusa is quick tempered and the legendary hero who is prophesied to defeat the overlord Maou. She consistently keeps the overlord in check and makes sure that he stays in the human world, though she is in a similar predicament of having to find a job in order to survive.

Definitely watch this anime for a good amount of laughs, as with every episode there is something new. By playing on the slice of life genre, this anime finds humour in everyday activities and doesn’t fail to make you smile. This anime has outdone itself and it would be a huge loss if you don’t watch it, so don’t hesitate to click on it.

Polar Bear Cafe

If you enjoy cute animals working in a zoo and owning cafes, then this is the anime for you. Polar Bear cafe is an animal lovers dream, this slice of life show gives us a comical insight to animals working life. The most interesting aspect of this anime is that animals willingly work in the zoo, the zoo is like any other job and more specifically the animals love working there. I instantly fell in love with this show, not only from the cute animals but from the roller coaster ride you fall into as you journey alongside with them.

The Protagonist Panda is lazy, young and has his mind in the clouds, he accidentally finds polar bear cafe, who funnily is owned by a polar bear. Panda from inspiration finds a job at the zoo, and it is through his lazy nature that makes his character more loveable. Panda easily makes friends and becomes a regular to the polar bear cafe, his innocent humour and very blunt attitude only makes people flock around him more.

Penguin, rash, romantic and reasonable is a character who despite his pessimism is very funny and keeps polar bear and penguin in check.

Polar bear, funny and responsible is a character who plays on puns, he uniquely plays on words and can easily make you and the other characters laugh. And although the show is mainly being in his cafe, there is always something new going on to keep you on your toes.

Despite this show being a happy go lucky slice of life, there is a heart wrenching episode which did make me cry. I found that i was so engrossed that when they felt pain i felt pain, the fact this show can entice such feeling just goes to show the brilliance of it. Bearer of good news, there are at least 50 episodes for you to watch, so take you time to watch all of them and bask in the calm atmosphere of the show.

Now Saiyuki is in my personal favourites, as it is a pure adventure based anime, one that has four tightknit friends travel together in order to defeat a terrible demon in the west.Saiyuki is a very old anime that is subbed and dubbed, either one is good but i found the dubbed version had more interesting dialogue. The chronology starts from the present and through a couple of episodes each one of their pasts come to be known and we are placed on an emotional rollercoaster. The world they live in has demons portrayed with pointed ears, and half demons shown to have red hair, and they all once coexisted with the humans. But because of a group of demons wanting to bring back to life an ancient evil demon, the world is thrown upside down  and it is up to the four individuals to fix the world.

Sanzo, though this is not his real name it is his title, he is a sanzo priest who practices buddhism. He follows the Gods orders; the gods who overwatch the world, and because he is a high priest he is tasked with destroying the evil. Comically sanzo is anything but a priest, he smokes, drinks, swear, is violent and most of all threatens his friends.

Goku a seemingly young child, who harnesses an enormous amount of power, though he is a demon he has an innocent and very much large appetites for food.

Hakkai a young man who is considered the most sensible of the group, is the healer as well as the mediator to many of their arguments.

Goyjo a half demon as evident by his red hair, is a pervert and a womanizer who loves gambling and drinking.

hakyruu or jeep, is their pet who can transform into a car, not much is known about his past or appearance to these men but is just as important as a main character.

Similar to this story is the book Journey to the west by Wu Cheng’en, if you like the story of the monkey’s journey then this is the anime for you.

Lucky for you all there is more than one season, saiyuki reload, saiyuki gunlock and the prequel saiyuki gaiden. Dont be dissuaded by the amount you have to watch, in fact take your time to watch it all and enjoy the story that comes with it.
